On Healing

I’ve been dealing with some health issues lately. I don’t like talking about these things. I think it’s bad juju to focus on what I want to move past.

I also tend to “lone wolf” it and isolate.

As I get older I realize I’m going to need my friends to be there for me at these times.

Pride is as much a detriment to your health as resistance to seeing the doctor; what you don’t know CAN hurt you. Ask Warren Zevon.

I was talking with a friend the other day who’s having her own health challenges.

We’re both creating work that challenges our capacity. Beneath our respective challenges is an emotional component.

Along with what we release out into the world is our body’s need to release the source of those gifts from our system. These things make us sick when we hold them inside.

They also show up as pain and discomfort as they’re being released. This is all part of the healing process.

The awareness of this is the difference between resistance and surrender.

Underneath all of our ills is an emotional cause that we don’t believe we can face or that we are unaware of.

This is not to say we are responsible for our illnesses. We can’t be responsible for what we are unaware of or unable to respond to.

And I don’t expect the reader to believe what I’ve written here on my word alone.

My invitation is to look at it and ask whether it might be true.

And then ask yourself what you need to know.

And listen.

Trust your internal guidance system.
